Analysis

Croconaw is one of my favorite Pokemon probably because of its unique design and its concept. Many people don't find it "cute" but I do. It's much smaller than I had originally thought, just coming up to a person's mid-thigh or smaller. Its huge head and ability to walk on two feet make it seem "cute". Though, because I have a horrible habit of analyzing fictional characters, it's an interesting design for an animal. It's not really believable, if you will, since it's said to be based on a Crocodile but Crocodiles walk on four feet. They live in the water and land spending most of the time lying on their bellies. Croconaws have the attitudes of Warm-blooded animals since they are more energetic and their posture is obviously different. Strange thing is, they also live in the water and lay eggs. We know that Pokemon are not REAL animals but it is still a mystery of how one would classify this creature in our world.

To me, Croconaw seems more Saurian than Crocodile. The common conception is that it's obviously a crocodile because of its large jaws. Crocodiles are known to be able to crunch down on very large and heavy prey so of course a big jaw on Croconaw would illustrate this. Though, again returning to the fact that it is bi-pedal, it also has that decoration that I had earlier stated looked like the stereotypical caveman clothing. Some have stated that it's an egg design, but I disagree. There are some cartoons of Cavemen (Cromagnon) with large jaws and bulky bodies. Croconaw is one of my favorites because of this controversy in its design. It could quite go either or both ways, depending on how you look at it.

Whatever the case may be, Croconaw continues to be rather iconic, for me, and a valuble addition to the Pokemon franchise. I continue to hope that there are other Croconaw fans out there and if so- I hope they consider adding themselves to the fanlist!
